VIERA, Fla. – The USSSA Pride hit five home runs in a 9-0 win over the Cleveland Comets at Space Coast Stadium on Tuesday.
Shelby Pendley hit two homers while Kirsti Merritt, Sierra Romero and Nicole DeWitt each had one.
Merritt finished the game 3-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in and Pendley was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Romero, DeWitt, Sahvanna Jaquish and Nicole Pendley each finished with two hits for the Pride, who improved to 11-0.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Pride pushed across an unearned run.
Nicole Pendley tripled home a run in the fourth and scored on Merritt’s single to make it 3-0. USSSA then hit a pair of homers in the fifth and three more in the sixth.
The Comets, who finished with just four hits, left a runner in scoring position in the second and also loaded the bases in the third but couldn’t get the clutch hit.
Xie Yue, Jade Rhodes, Sun Xun and Jiang Xinyue each had a hit for Cleveland in the loss.
Randi Rupp allowed five earned runs on nine hits and struck out a pair in 5 1/3 innings of work for Cleveland. Ping Fan and Devin Brown also saw action in the circle for the Comets.
Jessica Burroughs picked up the win for USSSA. She allowed four hits and struck out one in five innings. Kelsey Nunley didn’t allow a hit and struck out three in two innings.
The Comets and Pride wrap up the series on Wednesday.
