VIERA, Fla. – Keilani Ricketts threw a no-hitter and struck out nine to lead the USSSA Pride to a 4-1 win over the visiting Cleveland Comets at Space Coast Stadium on Wednesday.
The Pride, who improved to 12-0 on the year, also hit three home runs in the game.
Shelby Pendley hit the first long ball in the bottom of the second and Megan Wiggins hit a two-run shot in the third to make it 3-0. Kirsti Merritt added another in the sixth.
USSSA hit nine home runs in a three-game sweep of the Comets, who were outscored 17-1 during that stretch.
Ricketts faced just 24 batters in her season debut and threw 59 strikes and just 21 balls.
The Comets scored their only run on two errors in the top of the seventh.
Alexa Peterson reached on a one-out error. She moved to third when Jade Rhodes reached on an error and scored on Sun Xun’s groundout.
Yuan Huaining reached on an error in the third.
Gretchen Aucoin took the loss for the Comets. She allowed two earned runs on five hits and struck out one in 3 2/3 innings of work. Devin Brown gave up one run on one hit and struck out three in 2 1/3 innings.
Cleveland next plays the Aussie Spirit in Kansas City, Mo., on Monday, June 25.
